A few words from Jim

By Jim MessierJim Messier

Well, Centerfest 2015 is now history.  This was the first year with the two day event of the Friday night Classic car cruise in, Sock hop and Movie night followed by the street festival on Saturday. The weather was partially cooperative but certainly more agreeable than it would have been either of the previous two week ends. All-in-all the response has been very good and plans are already underway for Centerfest 2016.  As always, we could never have been able to put on this showcase event without the dozens of volunteers who jump in making the impossible happen every year as well as the Bedford Police Department, Public Works, VA Defense League, American Legion, EMS, Fire Companies and countless staff from the Town and County.

It is going to be a terrific Christmas and Holiday season again the year with The Downtown Christmas Parade “It’s a Wonderful Life” on Saturday December 5 at 11am.  We have three Friday nights with Carriage rides and other wonderful festivities into the evenings. We are thrilled to announce, People’s Furniture will host Santa Land on Friday nights in a wonderful, warm, inviting location on North Bridge Street.

Many of your local businesses will participate once again in Small Business Saturday, November 28.  It promises once again to be a fun filled day with lots of surprises and some great buys.  Please stay tuned for more details.

Shortly after the first of the year Bedford Main Street will launch a program which promises to help the Centertown area blossom once again.  One aspect of this program will help educate prospective entrepreneurs in the many aspects of developing and running a small business.  So entrepreneurs, get your business plans together and get ready.  We are very excited about the possibilities  and the vitality this can bring to our community and look forward to bringing you all the details in the very near future.

All of us at Bedford Main Street wish you and your families the Happiest of Thanksgivings.  Please remember to shop local first. Your dollar spent in Bedford with your local business is reinvested exponentially supporting your children’s schools, the arts community, emergency services and hundreds of other worthy causes. Your dollar spent out of town or on line is gone forever never to support your community again.  Please, let’s all do our part to help make Bedford the World’s Best Little Town.
